Hunter Fitzsimon is a Paladin. A Paladin is a warrior who fights Others in order to protect humans and guards the boundary (The boundary is a barrier that separates our world from the Kalith's. An Other is a Kalith that has gone crazy and murderous). An upside to being a Paladin is you have superior strength, heal quickly and have a longer life span. The downside is you die, over and over again. When we last saw Hunter he had just been tortured and killed by Others. The injury he sustained to his leg was so severe that he has reoccurring pain in it that gets so bad he can hardly walk. A Paladin's purpose is to guard the barrier and to kill any Other that comes through it. The mental toll of not being able to fight is worse than his physical pain. He is angry and could lose his temper with anyone for any reason. I think he has every right to feel like this. When you are told your whole life you are there to fight and then that is taken from you, who wouldn't be pissed off?
Hunter is sent from Missouri to Seattle in hopes that could some way help his healing. When he gets there the leader of the local Paladins, Devlin, sends him to a small town a few hours out called Justice Point. He is sent there to find out who is smuggling Kaliths and a blue rock that is vital to the Kalith's world over to our side of the boundary. While there Hunter meets Tate Justice. Tate refuses to leave Hunter alone even though he has nothing but rude things to say to her. Tate is sweet, smart and determined not to let Hunter push her away. I like to read about head strong women and warrior men. The men always seem so confused.
While Hunter is switching off between wanting to be around Tate and wanting to put as much distance as he can between them, he is also trying to find out who is behind the boundary activity. He gets help from D.J., Larem, Barak and Penn. D.J. is his usual sarcastic self and Barak always seems so calm and together. It was nice to read a little more about Penn. Before he just seemed to have this dark cloud around him. I'm glad his story will be next. Larem was a nice surprise. I like Barak but I think Larem is my favorite Kalith. Larem is respectful, polite and is an honorable warrior. I liked reading the scenes between him and Hunter. I think he not only helped Hunter with his prejudice towards the Kaliths but he treated Hunter as if he didn't have an injury which was exactly what Hunter needed. Larem's book is another one I look forward to. If there was as scene I could pick to see in real life it would be the one where the huge men were sitting in Tate's tea shop sipping tea from little tea cups. Just reading about it had me cracking up.

Defeat the Darkness Paladins of Darkness Book 6 Alexis Morgan 9781416563457 Books Reviews
I've read all the books in this series and must say that I enjoyed this particular novel immensely. It is definitely one of the best so far in a series that is wonderful paranormal romance as a whole. Hunter has gone through a lot, and the reader cares for the character as written by Morgan. He is one of the most likable Paladin's I've seen in the series, even after his life altering experience left him a shell of what he used to be. Tate is an excellent heroine and manages to get under Hunter's skin ... in more than one way. She is feisty without being overwhelming. I really liked the chemistry between the two characters. Their relationship was completely believable. Unlike some of the other books where the action takes over the story a little too much, this one seemed perfectly balanced to me. The romance was not set aside in favor of the action, yet the action flowed throughout the book. It is a solid paranormal romance novel. I agree with other reviewers that people who are new to the series, and even those who are looking for more of a stand-alone read will enjoy this book. Readers who are already fans of the series will absolutely love it. It is a highly recommended read.
After surviving being tortured, Hunter wasn't the same man, or Paladin, he had been before the ordeal. Since he wasn't mentally and physically up to the challenging life the Paladin's face to protect the Earth from a parallel universe, his boss suggested he take some time with another group of Paladins in the Pacific Northwest. Reassigned to small town to watch a little piece of the barrier between Earth and the alien world, he rents an apartment from Tate. He has a strange connection with Tate, but refuses to become close to anyone, especially his landlord. As he learns more about her, the more he cannot his feelings for Tate, but he knows that they can never have a relationship. Or can they?
The newest Paladins of Darkness book scores big. Both Hunter and Tate have pasts that haunt them, which give each character depth and motivations for their actions. Although prickly, Hunter draws in Tate's curiosity. Their chemistry is undeniable and written extremely well.
Also, the pacing of the book was done well. A few chapters that were not in the perspective of Hunter or Tate took away focus from these main characters, but these chapters did play a role into the suspenseful portion at the end of the book. Luckily, the slow chapters are few and far between, which don't take away from the story as a whole when the book is finished.
I adored Defeat the Darkness. Hunter and Tate are perfect together and immediately draw in the reader. Then, the suspense of the story picks up and keeps the pages turning to the end. For fans of Alexis Morgan, this book is a must read!
BookingIt Grade A-
Hunter was the hero in this book, who was captured and tortured. He had issues as, I would guess, anyone else would had they survived what he did. He wanted to be left alone. Tate was the heroine who rented an apartment to him. While some would see Tate as a caring person who looked out for him, I saw her constant watching of Hunter's comings and goings as creepy (had a man watched my every move and followed me around, I would have been stocking up on Pepper Spray). For crying out loud, he couldn't even mow a lawn without her watching him! Her following him put everyone else's lives in more danger. This woman was pathetic and stupid, in my opinion. Not good qualities, at all. It ruined what may have been a decent book. I started skipping the parts from her POV around the middle of the book. I'll be deleting this book from my .
